Lois Frankel
Lois Frankel is an assessment specialist II in the Assessment Development division at ETS. She received a PhD in philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley . Before coming to ETS, Frankel taught philosophy at undergraduate and graduate levels for several years and published more than a dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the work of female and male philosophers of the seventeenth century and on topics in contemporary philosophy.
Since coming to ETS in 1992, Frankel has worked on tests of critical and verbal reasoning, on tests for licensure of teachers of students with visual impairments, and on adapting tests for individuals with disabilities. In 2003, she became the test development coordinator for alternate test formats, and in that role she oversees test adaptation, mentors staff working on test adaptation, works closely with test development leadership and the Office of Disability Policy on content-related, procedural, and policy issues pertaining to test-adaptation, and conducts research on test accessibility issues. She is also closely involved in the monitoring and development of technological approaches to advancing the accessibility of assessments and of other ETS products.
